リリース日: 2001-04-13

このリリースは、過去長い間 PostgreSQL のコードにあった、制限を取り去ることに焦点をあてたものです。

このリリースにおける大きな変更は以下の通りです。

ログ先行書き込み(WAL)

オペレーティングシステムのクラッシュ時のデータベースの一貫性を保つために、以前の PostgreSQL のリリースでは、各トランザクションのコミットの前に変更されたデータを全て強制的にディスクに書き込んでいました。WAL によって、ログファイルのみがディスクに吐き出されることになり、性能が大幅に改善されました。以前のリリースで -F を使用して、ディスクの吐き出しを止めていた場合、それを取り止めることを検討する方が良いでしょう。

TOAST

TOAST。これまでのリリースでは行の長さ制限はコンパイル時に決定されました。通常は 8Kから 32 k です。この制限は、長めのテキストフィールドの格納が困難でした。TOAST によって、任意長の大きな行を優れた性能で格納できます。

外部結合

外部結合をサポートするようになりました。外部結合の代替方法としてのUNION/NOT IN は不要となりました。SQL92 の外部結合の構文を使用しています。

関数マネージャ

これまでの C 関数マネージャは NULL を適切に扱いませんでした。また、64ビット CPU (Alpha) をサポートしませんでした。新しい関数マネージャではこれらを行います。古い独自の関数を使用し続けることは可能ですが、新しい関数マネージャ呼び出しインタフェースを使用するように書き換えることを勧めます。

複雑な問い合わせ

これまでサポートされなかった多数の複雑な問い合わせが動作するようになりました。ビュー、集約、UNION、LIMIT、カーソル、副問い合わせ、継承されたテーブルを多く組み合わせたものが適切に動作するようになりました。継承されたテーブルはデフォルトでアクセスされるようになりました。FROM での副問い合わせもサポートされるようになりました。
